Star is one of the oldest settlements in the Boise Valley. After M.B. Palmer began what became known as the Pioneer Ditch in 1863, individuals followed F. Swalley, a settler, one mile south of the present-day Star town center and helped settle 300-acres of land. After the area was developed, Star grew in its population size and became a popular resting place for individuals traveling between Boise and the mines in the Boise Basin.
